Safety Measures You Can Take to Keep Indianapolis Glass Doors Secure

Among the most common home entry points that burglars love to exploit are the doors. This is exactly what happened one night in Dumfries, VA. An article from WUSA recounts the story:

Burglary Suspect

“Prince William County police have arrested a man who they say ran through a sliding glass door while trying to escape after a burglary.

On April 14 around 5:30 a.m., police responded to a home in the 16100 block of Taconic Circle in Dumfries to investigate a burglary in progress.

Upon arrival, police say they located a man standing on top of a fence a few homes away. The suspect jumped from the fence, ran through the backyard, and smashed through the rear sliding glass door to the residence, according to police.

Multiple officers searched the area and located Watson, who they say matched the suspect description. Police say Watson sustained minor injuries as a result of breaking through the glass door and window.”

There is no denying that having beautiful Indianapolis glass doors adds aesthetic value to a home. However, many people are also quick to point out that burglars can easily break through these doors, as was the case in the article above.

Fortunately, there are several ways to stick with the natural beauty of glass doors without compromising safety. Some of the measures you can take to secure glass doors include:

Reinforced Glass

Choose to have your door made of reinforced glass. This type of glass is specially designed to withstand blunt force, substantially reducing the chances of it shattering. Most burglars prefer the path of least resistance, so many of them are likely to give up on attacking a door that is pretty much “unbreakable”.

Additional Locks

Don’t overly depend on the built-in locks your glass door comes with. You can easily purchase a slide bolt or security latch from your local hardware store for an added layer of safety.

If you cannot purchase additional locks, a steel bar can get the job done too. Simply place it diagonally along the path of the door to prevent the panel from opening at all.

If you are looking to add glass doors to your home, try contacting an Indianapolis glass company that offers customized glass doors, such as Suburban Glass Service, Inc. Professionals from such businesses can give you a beautiful, one-of-a-kind door with extra security features to keep you and your loved ones safe.
